Here are Ten Twitter Tips, social media and it's best and worst. Hopefully this will inspire a few ideas on how to build and monetize your database using twitter. This post will be discussed on the David Kamatoy Radio Show.

Examples with David Kamatoy and Morgan Westerman. Morgan Westerman
created one of the most successful viral videos of the internet and has
recently focused his energy on social media. In just a few short months
he has gathered about 25,000 followers on twitter. He is currently
working with entrepreneurs on best practices in sales conversion. He
can be followed @morganwesterman.
They rewarded dell followers by promoting refurbished gear specifically and have noted sales to prove it.
THE LESSON: They created a specific type of reward and message that was different from their other marketing. In tandem with the reality that most twitter followers will be a bit tech savvy purchasing online this was a good match.
The result would have been different if they didn't do the discounted and refurbished sales.
2. Steve Agee, The Sarah Silverman Project: Steve Agee comedian started off his twitter following by pulling off a stunt on Ustream.tv about reading all first 5,000 names live on air when he hit 5,000. He is currently at 863,420.
Really good example of someone in the public spotlight using that publicity to gather a following in a new genre. Dane Cook did it on myspace and now Steve Agee is doing it on twitter.
ENTERTAINER TIP: Remember that when your on a hit show or in the limelight. Use it to build your database. Anyone in this side of the business knows that you never know when your going to get your show canceled. In radio they often sell the station out from under you with very little rumbling. If they told you the advertisers would go away.

The Lessons: 1. Use a landing page as seen below. 2. Quotes can be quite useful if used correctly. Choosing quotes that are related to your subject matter and then either blogging about them or just reference them back to you is a good idea in creating an ideal emotion. 3. It's public people remember that journalists are now quoting "tweets".

7. Customize your twitter page. I use Google's picassa to create a collage using pictures and logos. You have to play with the output settings to get it right but it's a great free application.

BONUS Final Advice: Remember that ultimately you don't own your twitter,facebook or myspace profiles. They can be deleted at anytime for complaints, overuse, spam. To top it all off the parameters are constantly changing.
TIP: Covert to a real email and contact information as quickly as possible for real contacts.

The way we covered the Christian Hoff event is to me the future of the best use of some of internet technology that's available to us now.
Interviews and Excerpts that are important to a small group but done in an interesting way. Then posted to the internet using the current technology at hand.
At the same time I am able to connect with that niche group but through the power of networking you never know who is in that small group. I have seen it again and again that the raising of capital, the closing of a business deal, the distribution of a project starts with an introduction.
What we did was a notch up because of the kind of accounts that I have at youtube and viddler. I can post upgraded long form videos. I could have covered the same event by just snapping some photos, writing about it and maybe even use a flip phone but instead I used a baby canon HD camera and posted it in HD on youtube.
The video category is in the search engines is still a huge opportunity. We saw a few years ago that the video category would not just be about entertainment but about knowledge as well. FAQ's, How to's, podcasts, resume's are all being creating in a visual format as well as text.
The search engines are constantly looking for impressions and listings in separate categories of the web. At Kamatoy Media we mine blogs, video, news, mini-blogging which helps the main web search category.
The bad thing is that I have a mountain of video to go. While at the same time creating new and relevant material on the live streaming show
The hardest thing about the journey for me is to accept that every time we create something that I can see a better way to do it even with the limited resources that are available from event to event.

Twitter followers were asked to follow @burger_lounge on twitter and prove that they followed by printing out proof.
My buddy at eCoronado told me about the promotion. As I sit here at the restarurant the people are pouring in. Proof that businesses cannot ignore Social Media.
By creating a memorable twitter promotion they are building there online presence and relationship with there following, by providing a "reward" for following they are creating clickability and credibility with their audience.
Burger Lounge is a hip natural Burger and Fry joint that has a healthy and natural spin. What's unique is that this restaurant is thriving and growing in spite of the recession.
My hypothesis is that they are satisfying the American Burger and Fry craving that fast-food is no longer satisfying. As we get older we realize just how nutritionally unsatisfying a fast food burger can be. Burger Lounge is fastly following the In and out model with a hip and satisfying upgrade.
Baby Boomers and Gen xers that are trying to save money can eat casually and somewhat healthy while satisfying the American Food Craving.

I use chrome for certain application especially when I want to run something fast and without the toolbars that have become cluttered on firefox.
I also have installed google desktop which is an application that allows me to pull up a google search boxb y double clicking my control button. google desktop also searches your browser history.
I have found this a valuable resource since more and more of my applications are web based.
I think targeting the netbook market makes good sense since the internet is there strong siut. This allows them to build an OS around the virtual desktop which is gmail. I see offline versions of google docs being able to be run offline in the native Chrome OS.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that
will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will
open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be
available for consumers in the second half of 2010.
Google voice is going after Skype. Just like the recent Palm Pre vs. iphone. I think this is a good thing for consumers. I just started using Skype a few months ago due to my own disagreement with Sprint. There are some really cool things about Skype and some weird issues thatI hope they improve on.
1. The texting option. you can text other people you get charged for it and they can't text you back on Skype. This is whacked because on AOL you can text back and forth for free with the caveat that it's not your phone number.
2. Call quality is suspect at times it reminds me of those old cell phone days...

I am considering using skype for it's multiple number ability and also considering using google voice in beta if they let me and play with this as well.
I will keep you updated. I don't know if there is a wrong answer as much as it's competition and competition means that skype will have to improve.
Competition gives us a choice in which tools to be most effective with.
Social Media is the buzz right now. Many professionals in the media world are being inundated with requests about social media. In fact many businesses are contacting professionals saying, "I only want to talk about Social Media"
Social Media is really the long tail of PR, PR builds a brand and so does social media. Here are some key points that I intend to elaborate on in the show and in our work.
Concept #1: Advertising and Marketing is the first thought of Entrepreneurs and Business owners when they try to develop leads and business, but there are some inherent problems...
a. Ratio 1:1 3:1- Your goal in an advertising budget is to create a 3:1+ ratio. In other words for every dollar you spend you get 3 back. If you create a 1:1 ratio it might be working and needs some tweaking but most likely you are doing something right. 2:1-3:1 is getting much better. Your going to profit from this if your margins are correct.
The problem with advertising is the INITIAL INVESTMENT....
You have to spend money to find the right formula in advertising. Each and every medium and category has it's own price point as well. In other words $5,000 dollars may seem like a lot of money to you but that's one ad in a publication for a week, a day, a month. $b. 5,000 can be spent in Pay Per Click in a an hour if you wanted in the right category.
The good news is that your response is usually immediate good or bad.
You have to be willing to invest the money into the test phase in order to find that ratio.
That investment should be based ultimately on how much money you want to make a month a quarter, etc. In other words If you want to create $10,000 in sales a month then you should consider a $3333.33 a month budget. Adjust the ratio accordingly to testing, market and category.
b. Because advertising is our initial response to more sales. We try to equate that same model to PR and Social Media. That is not going to work because Social Media is about long ball and interacting with your database to find out what they actually like.
THROW THE SPAGHETTI ON THE WALL AND SEE IF IT STICKS.
Social Media allows you to build a database and experiment with that database as you grow. Time and Money spent in social media can move you into a smart advertising campaign.
Social Media like Search Engine Optimization can have long lasting effects that pay exponentially over time.
The great thing about social media is that it is scalable. You can do it yourself for relatively low cost meaning that your going to put more time than money into it.
