Coronado, CA- DavidKamatoy.com first podcast via chroma-Key green-screen. This is a
test of a green screen format that intends to be a regular event. So
it's a little rough around the edges. Same babble as on the news
section of the LiveStream Show... Enjoy!
Hey so check this out... Looks cool and now we will improve the format.
We are days away from Thanksgiving which also means that we are heading into a time when the prospect of "New Business" goes into hibernation. If you are part of the holiday season then you will be exceptionally busy. For the rest of us there is a point when you will start to get the...
"Sounds Great! Let's talk at the beginning of the year."
A lot of you may hang up the phone and then scream...
So instead of being blindsided by this phenomena get clear that this is going to happen and it's up to you to responsible for your activity during this downtime.
For extroverts and those driven by sales and interactivity this may be a very difficult time especially if you emotionally attach yourself to sales/money.
AN EXTROVERT STRATEGY: Use the holiday time to emotionally connect with would be and current clients.
Use this time to get to know your database a bit. Ask important questions...
How did you do this year?
What kind of opportunities are you looking for in the new year, 2010?
What kind of skill sets do you have that I don't know about?
What kind of opportunity can I be on the look out for you in 2010?
Is there a proposal that I can prepare for you for the top of the year that can help you hit your goals?
You can do this as a series of phone calls and/or emails preferably using a jugglemail.
Using a jugglemail strategy: Create a well written email and track that email using the "Hot Prospects" Generator. Then pick up the phone and connect with the Hot Prospects and the Read email recipients.
AN INTROVERT STRATEGY: Be meticulous about finishing up projects.

Here are Ten Twitter Tips, social media and it's best and worst. Hopefully this will inspire a few ideas on how to build and monetize your database using twitter. This post will be discussed on the David Kamatoy Radio Show.
Ten Twitter Tips, Successful and Unsuccessful
Examples with David Kamatoy and Morgan Westerman. Morgan Westerman
created one of the most successful viral videos of the internet and has
recently focused his energy on social media. In just a few short months
he has gathered about 25,000 followers on twitter. He is currently
working with entrepreneurs on best practices in sales conversion. He
can be followed @morganwesterman.
They rewarded dell followers by promoting refurbished gear specifically and have noted sales to prove it.
THE LESSON: They created a specific type of reward and message that was different from their other marketing. In tandem with the reality that most twitter followers will be a bit tech savvy purchasing online this was a good match.
The result would have been different if they didn't do the discounted and refurbished sales.
2. Steve Agee, The Sarah Silverman Project: Steve Agee comedian started off his twitter following by pulling off a stunt on Ustream.tv about reading all first 5,000 names live on air when he hit 5,000. He is currently at 863,420.
Really good example of someone in the public spotlight using that publicity to gather a following in a new genre. Dane Cook did it on myspace and now Steve Agee is doing it on twitter.
ENTERTAINER TIP: Remember that when your on a hit show or in the limelight. Use it to build your database. Anyone in this side of the business knows that you never know when your going to get your show canceled. In radio they often sell the station out from under you with very little rumbling. If they told you the advertisers would go away.
OWN YOUR OWN DATABASE AND GET THEM TO AM EMAIL LIST
4. Straight to Sales: Straight to SPAM! http://twitter.com/Wealth_Formula No Humanity This is perfect example of what does not work and will most likely be deleted as spam. Straight to a landing page with only one message. REALLY!!!
5. Good Porn Bad Porn: http://twitter.com/A_Dempsey While this may go straight to a porn link the good thing is the quotes and a varying message. Sneaky Porn Spam generally bad.
The Lessons: 1. Use a landing page as seen below. 2. Quotes can be quite useful if used correctly. Choosing quotes that are related to your subject matter and then either blogging about them or just reference them back to you is a good idea in creating an ideal emotion. 3. It's public people remember that journalists are now quoting "tweets".
THREE TWITTER TIPS
7. Customize your twitter page. I use Google's picassa to create a collage using pictures and logos. You have to play with the output settings to get it right but it's a great free application.
If you truly want to convert to sales or interactivity then you have to earn the respect of your followers through credibility. Therefore push content...
Blog postings- Like this one.
Press Releases-
Email Marketing: Jugglemail emails create unique URL's that can be easily posted onto twitter. We do it all the time with our press release emails.
Videos
Facebook
Other peoples content: rt someone elses tweet usually garners attention and is often reciprocated.
10. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery: Pay attention to who you and others pay attention to and then customize that style to your own.
BONUS Final Advice: Remember that ultimately you don't own your twitter, facebook or myspace profiles. They can be deleted at anytime for complaints, overuse, spam. To top it all off the parameters are constantly changing.
TIP: Covert to a real email and contact information as quickly as possible for real contacts.
We do this using the auto responders on our jugglemail system or just dropping them into the system upon approval.

1. Are anti-social geeks who isolate themselves from others and the community.
Here is my take on the first one. I know that one of the reasons that a lot of Entrepreneurs are successful is because they can effectively communicate their ideas, concepts, and sometimes dreams with the utmost CONFIDENCE.
Entrepreneurs often have to embrace being both introverted and extroverted. Those that are more introverted often have to embrace being an extrovert in order to get their idea communicated to the world. Often they hire people around them to be a spokesperson, VP, CEO, etc.
I worked most of my performing career learning to be an extrovert and that energy helped me and continues to attract business to me. However it is now embracing my introvert that allows me to often complete projects.
In the entertainment world...
Entertainers have a tendency to be Extroverts while Producers have a tendency to be Introverts.
Check out the article and please comment and twitter...
While yes this is absolutely true and it has affected some of our projects as well, several projects crashed and burned from the lack of cash flow. There are also huge opportunities for market share. Starting a business is always odd just because the RISK takers are often people without good credit. While the people with credit are often those who are people that pay their bills on time and own property and are not RISK takers.
What we are seeing right now is FORCED ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
People that would not normally aggressively decide to start a business are realizing that this is their best option on several levels. Best Use of Skill Set: The Highest use of their skill set. Most likely getting a job that uses all of your skill sets when the market is poor is a difficult task. Truth be told a lot of jobs that individuals take are often sometimes not what they really should be doing but they are paid to do.
I am a high creative that has a talent for starting businesses, the job that I created for myself at a company that went from 3 to 200 people in less than 3 years was one that eventually was a job that eventually was taken over by a paralegal. Not what I should be doing.
Entrepreneurship gives you the opportunity to do exactly what you are best at doing.
No Ceiling Income: The mind has a floor and ceiling when it comes to income. Most people don't lose a job and then get rehired at triple their salary. Most jobbers end up taking a job that pays them less than the last job especially in this economy.
While yes it is going to be a struggle to start and learn any business. There is a reason that a lot of self-made millionaires are entrepreneurs.
As middle class goes they are often connected to that specific lifestyle. Often a jarring moment like the recession is the impetus for taking control over ones financial increase.
THE REALITY CHECK:You might have to do something that you don't know how to do or don't want to do.
Pay attention because this important. When credit was aplenty I saw a lot of Baby Boomers go into dream mode. In other words they tapped into the credit to explore entrepreneurship. I saw a lot of people feel their way through there saving when they should have been on the phones. They took the classes, got a logo, etc, but a lot of them ignored the basics of CASHFLOW.
Is someone paying you right now for a service or a product?
How can you multiply those results?
If you are developing a product.
Who will buy this product?
Have you done the market research to learn if anyone will buy the product?
While I naturally have the ability to peform and create I had to learn the ability to create tasks for myself. I had to learn to complete things. I had to learn to ask for help and get people around me that can help me finish projects.
Entrepreneurs:Part of your job is to create business.
The other huge dangerous trait that I saw other job based new to entrepreneurs do was this. They spent the bulk of their day doing tasks that did not create business. The danger of being a job based person is that we were paid money to do a task for a number of hours and then we got a check. TIME FOR MONEY.
If you have 8 hours in a normal business day and you spend those 8 hours filing and cleaning when your business is not filing or cleaning for another business or party you are doing the wrong task.
You have to dedicate the right percentage of time during your most productive hours to creating business, creating money.
EXCERCISE: Identify your most financially productive task. Can you double the amount of time you do that task? In doing so can you move those filing and cleaning tasks to after hours or on the weekend.
Your an entrepreneur now so be prepared to master your time.
We created several projects that are being completed and I have to split and balance my time between completing those projects mostly in the evenings and then creating business during the day. I outsource and manage my team as well so as I create a task I will outsource it to free up my time to create another project or client. If you like these ramblings please comment. I am currently working on my first book based on my dozen years as an entrepreneur and my 2 dozen as an entertainer and the lessons that I learn from both. So if you have a story or a testimonial to contribute please do.

As I have been cruising twitter of late, I find this phenomena often. It is not unusual for people not to get twitter or blogging. I find that the concept is just hard for people to take. The learning curve is just so weird.
Think about it even if I wanted to say write a book, a screenplay a haiku poem there is a form and that form takes a while to master.
Twitter is coming into it's own and it's evolving as I am even typing this. While Twitter is he long tail of blogging the reality is that it's still confusing.
Let's face it as much as I enjoy blogging. It's first draft and I grew up on newspapers and books not blogs. To publish a first draft kind of goes against everything we were taught in school when you really think about it.
Here is my take on it.
1. Social Media is not going away.
2. It's the same content in a different form.
Theatre begat Film begat Television begat VHS begat DVD begat begat Internet video begat youtube begat hulu begat mp4 etc. etc. etc.
3.You have to meet people where they are at.
If your client, fans, database are you using twittter. You should be on twitter. If your clients fans database is on myspace, hey you should be on myspace.
4. Write content that your people and you care about.
5. Promote that content. Don't just write but learn to promote it.
I am seemingly spending more time promoting what I write than writing it. Eventually that will change once the database has built momentum it's then a matter of being...
6. Consistent:Be consistent with your output. Dedicate yourself to some sort of schedule because social media is about attrition, small ball, throwing stuff against a wall and seeing what works.
Final thoughts: You can't escape social media if you want to grow your business online. Therefore you need to get help and education on not abandoning your twitter or blogs. Go back and claim your web real estate and get some help.
We can help just email us. Yes this is a shameless plug to end this post. lol
This quote recently got traffic on twitter so I thought I would expound.
Action is the foundational key to all success. Pablo Picasso
One of the definitions of action is, "AN ACT OF WILL" i f you break that down to a single step its an act of will, a single task.
AN ACT OF WILL BREAKS DOWN TO A SINGLE TASK.
One of the constant challenges that I have is the conceptual nature of how my brain works. I am a highly creative person by nature that has had to learn to break down projects into steps in order to finish them.
The challenge is that emotionally while I excited at the prospect of starting a project. In midstream where a task is needed to be done to finish the project. Finishing is not an emotional motivation nor is the next middle task. It's as if the mind does not see the middle step as actual. It only sees the beginning and the end but not the middle.
More importantly my mind did not know how to celebrate or acknowledge the middle task. The key to getting to the end of a project if you are not motivated by it is to keep starting.
I make lists constantly but what I've learned is that I need to be exceptionally specific about the list. Listing what's directly next in a project and then crossing off that next step is one of the keys to my success.
If I just have the would-be completed project on the list it will never get done or more importantly it will never FEEL like I can get it done.
AN ACT OF WILL BREAKS DOWN TO A SINGLE TASK BUT IT SOUNDS COOLER IF YOU CALL IT AN ACT OF WILL.
TIP: Handwriting a short to do list can be extremely beneficial. Handwriting is connected to your sub-concious mind. The act of creating that list and crossing items off that list will help you feel as though you are moving a project forward. Celebrating or acknowledging the ACT OF WILL a single task is what your after here.

As the popularity of twitter grows so does the reality of the celebrity impostors. I find this only amusing because I saw this happening with website. I am amazed at how many celebrities don't own there own name as a url. It's like the whole publicity, agent circle was completely asleep when they built the internet.
I mean come on $10 bucks to secure your name as a URL. Hello! $5,000 a month for my publicist back in the day so that they could ignore the web.
Case in point: I remember asking my agent if she wanted me to build her a website and she basically said, "No" because she didnt see a benefit. Comically a few years later she actually said to me, "Hey have you seen the website, I'm so excited." Really you can't make this stuff up.
Finally I am reminded of my buddy Dat Phan because part of his impetus to start building his myspace profile was that someone was pretending to be him on myspace. This guy was thanking people for congratulating him on winning last comic standing.
FINAL TIPS: Get the url with your name even if it's the .name. especially if you are branding yourself. Get the twitter.com/yourname if you can as well again branding yourself before someone else grabs it. If you have common name then try adding the activity or category that people will most likely search for you under. Also you always add the word BLOG behind your name and start a simple blog site.

If you are not involved in a project the lesson from Lao-tzu is simple, "just start" which for a lot of us is easy because entrepreneurs and entertainers are by nature "starters."
The challenge becomes in the middle of the project or journey when you know just enough information to confuse you. You begin to self-doubt and limit your options based on information. Fear shows up because the reality is that you don't know clearly what is going to happen.
Questions and Fears may appear...
But I don't have a business plan?
I need a logo?
Where am I going to get the 2 million to do that?
I need this computer?
I need that application?
I need this training?
In addition because you are in the middle of the journey you most likely will have made some mistakes. Which may cause even more confusion.
Another part of the inferential lesson from Lao-tzu is that...
Don't let the 15th Step Stop you from taking the next step. -David Kamatoy
I have allowed myself and I have witnessed a lot of projects stall simply because the project manager or team worried about a step that could not be addressed immediatly and so it stopped them from doing a next step.
Another challenge is not understanding the steps that are being taken and in deciding that the benefits of said step are not apparent will stop doing the next step.
While you in your own mind may justify this. Simply apply this model to LEARNING TO WALK. If you stopped because you felt uncomfortable then you would be crawling right now and not walking. Apply this to any learned skill that we so easily take for granted and it starts to make perfect sense.
As an entreprneur, entertainer, self-motivated individual, human. We thrive on learning and mastering new skill sets, improving on our current skill sets. We are driven to be better. Whenever it doesn't make sense just think to yourself "Well, I learned to walk." "I learned to write." "I learned to read." "I learned to juggle."
Yet even with that specifc mindset in place. We often stop what we are doing because we don't have a simple tool that we dont even need yet.
One of keys of my training from IBI and B J Dohrmann was the simple mantra,"What's Next?" Continually asking yourself this question and then doing a specific task will help propel you in the right direction. Once you start moving in the right direction it's also a good idea to have a team or consultant make sure your doing the most efficent task at the correct time. LESSON FROM THE JUGGLER: Make a list of the top 10 tasks that you have to do right now. Then organize them based on what is most important. Then organize them based on what you can actually do right now. Say aloud to yourself or have someone ask you, "What's Next?" THEN DO IT.
San Diego,CA- These were taken at the Spring Buskers Festival 2008 at Seaport Village.
Charles Frey took these at one the better shows of the weekend. Charles has a great eye for capturing those moments. Thank you for these my friend...

Dat Phan, Emmet Morgan and Martin Mansour threw an Industry Holiday Networking Party in Mid December before they left on a cruise ship.
The place was packed for 10 hours when one group left another group appeared. It was made up of industry people cast and crew.
