Learning a lot about theatre this week and of course I thought I knew everything (haha).
Saw a lot of theatre and sat in on four hours of auditions.
Here's what I learned about auditions:
- Making a comment about your name ("Six, like the number") really helps you stand out
- So does your performance
- As a director, I put people on lists, one for each part in the play
- As more people audition, people better suited for the parts take the place of the previous ones
- I had no idea how much it was about types. No matter how well you read, if you're not a black man, you're not getting that role
- I know three actors who could do that part
- Oddly, casting the man is easier, there are three who could do both of the male roles I'm casting
- I see more people today
I'll keep you posted on that and on the theatre I saw this week...
