My Dear Brother
Jacob, my dear brother, you will never know just how much I love you.
I miss you and I will miss you every day of my life.
I was looking forward to creating a stronger, closer relationship with you.
I was looking forward to being an aunt to your children.
I was looking forward to congratulating you on graduating medical school –
If, indeed, you did end up following that dream.
Now I will not get to do those things, and more;
But when I sing, I will sing for you;
When I write, I will write for you;
When I draw, I will draw for you;
When I graduate, I will cry for your absence;
When I laugh, I will in your stead;
When I cry, I will remember how warm and safe your hugs made me feel;
When I find the woman of my dreams, I will love her for the both of us,
When I have children, I will ensure they know you:
Your intelligence,
Your humor,
Your charisma,
Your character,
Your friendliness,
Your love,
Your care,
Your hopes,
Your hugs,
Your skill,
Your abilities,
Your good aspects,
And even your not-so-good aspects,
Most of all, who you were, how important you are, and how much I love you.
Because Jake, I love you.
So much.
We had differences, but it was us.
Us connected by something circumstance could not undue.
I love you, in the past, in the now, and in the future, my love for you will continue always.
And I will miss you in my life for just as long.
I may move on and continue with my life, but you will always be with me,
In my heart and in my mind.
